The PSL set to go head-to-head with IPL in 2025 because the ICC announced its FTP for 2023-27 on Wednesday, August 17, 2022. There is a busy season ahead for Pakistan as they will tour Australia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and New Zealand. Once they return home for a tri-series in February 2025, they have a busy season in front of them.
In February 2025, Pakistan will host the Champions Trophy for the first time in almost 30 years – the last ICC tournament it hosted was the 1996 ODI World Cup. A window between March and May has been set for the tenth season of the PSL by the PCB.
Since 2009, Pakistan has not been able to host multi-nation cricket at home due to security-related issues in the three previous three FTP cycles. In the last three years, Pakistan has begun hosting top teams, and the Future Tours Program will include all Full Members except India.
As part of the ICC World Test Championship cycles, there are 27 Test matches, 13 of which are at home. In addition, there are 26 home ODIs out of 47, and 27 home T20Is out of 56. Each Test is part of a successive cycle of the World Test Championship.
There will, however, be a clash between the 2025 PSL and the 2026 IPL due to the excessive number of matches, which means the 2026 PSL will take place less than seven months later, in December 2025-January 2026. But this clash will be finished in the 11th edition of the PSL.
PCB chief executive Faisal Hasnain said in a statement: “We have given attention to context, quality, and player workload while finalizing our Future Tours Program 2023–2027 amid a tight and densely-packed cricket calendar. We have also made an effort to strike the right balance among the three formats so that they may continue to coexist in a useful way.”
