At the IPL 2023 Auction held in Kochi on Friday, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) purchased England batter Harry Brook for a whopping sum of Rs 13.25 crores, making him the most expensive player to be purchased at the auction.
A bidding war was raging between SRH and Rajasthan Royals for Brook’s services, and in addition, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were also involved in this race for Brook’s services. It is interesting to note that Brook, who set the base price for his player at Rs. 1.5 crore, has risen to prominence with his astonishing stroke play during the short, but sweet career he has had in international cricket.
In the recent Test series against Pakistan, he was in the running for the highest run-scorer award, scoring 468 runs at an average of 93.60, which included three centuries and a half-century and the highest score of 153. The superb performance he put in during the longer format of the game earned him the title of ‘Man of the Series’.
As part of the Asian tour, Brook also won the ‘Man of the Series’ award for his superb performance in a seven-match T20I series against the Asian giants during the period between September and October of last year. There were 238 runs scored by him in seven innings, at an average of 79.33, with one half-century as well as the best of 81*.
Although Brook had worked hard and dedicated himself to the game so that it was the sole reason that he had been able to succeed and achieve the massive contract with SunRisers Hyderabad, a Pakistani journalist wanted to take credit for Brook’s success and to attribute it to the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
